Coimbatore : Land owners whose land has been ear-marked for Coimbatore airport expansion indulged in an argument with the special district revenue officer seeking appropriate compensation during the meeting that was held at the district collectorate on Saturday.
A total of 624 acres of land at Chinniampalayam, Irugur, Neelambur, Uppilipalayam located near Coimbatore airport has been ear-marked for airport expansion. Among the allocated lands, 461acres are patta lands, 28 acres are porampoke lands and 134 acres belong to air force. While, Rs 900 per sq.ft was fixed as compensation for agriculture lands whereas Rs.1500 per sq.ft was fixed for residential and industrial zones.
Meanwhile, a meeting regarding compensation was convened with 7th street Uppilipalayam, Bharathi Nagar residents by the special district revenue officer, Govindaraj at the district collectorate today.
During the meeting, people carried out an argument with the officers seeking the following demands: Rs. 2500 to 3000 compensation per sq.ft as per market value; alternative land should be allocated within 1 km and compensation should be provided at the earliest.
The officials pacified the people following which people dispersed from the spot stating that they will back down from their demands.
