According to reports, fire emanated from a huge garbage dump at Pudhiyavar Nagar. The fire which started low picked up steadily and started to spread to nearby areas.
The residents alerted the fire and rescue department who are presently dousing the fire.
It is speculated that miscreants could have purposefully set fire.
