Coimbatore : The 18th edition of Connect Coimbatore organised by CII Coimbatore was held today at the Le Meridian with a focus on the theme "The Fourth Industrial Revolution - How it can impact you!" The conference focused on how current technology tools can impact the industrial landscape.

The conference had sessions on 'The age of the machines - How AI and ML is changing our world, Manufacturing - Digital Twins and more, ethics, privacy and security, an Automation and Digital transformation.
Speaking on the occassion, Devesh Tyagi , Senior director, Software Technology Parks of India, New Delhi elaborated about the digital revolution that has changed lives. "Rural BPOs in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities have enabled rural men and women, and even school dropouts, who otherwise would be jobless. This inclusive growth of such cities with the help of IT will lead to the development of employment opportunities and bring in overall transformation."
Tyagi made special mention of Fintech- Centre of Excellence started recently by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of Tamil Nadu and supported by Pontac, a UK-based firm, NPCI and Yes Bank in association with the Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT), Govt. of Tamil Nadu.
"This is the first of its kind in India, with a space of 10000 sq.ft, and can accomodate 58 incubatees. Its objective is to provide Fintech startups with access to facility, technology, mentorship and support, such that they they kick-start their business. Some of the startups will also get access to financial resources and technical support by industry partners," stated Tyagi.
The Principal Secretary - IT, Government of Tamil Nadu, Santhosh Babu in his address as chief guest elucidated about the power of Information Technology in transforming lives. "The underprivileged sections of the society are the building blocks of our nation and improving their lives can be enabled through technology.
We should work toward creating a prosperity line instead of poverty line, and this can be done by technology and industries should come forward to do this. There should be a paradigm shift in government and private sectors," he reiterated.
The Principal Secretary also spoke about the State government's ambitious plans in improving technology usage in the government sector. "The Tamil Nadu Government is working toward creating a master database wherein all the government departments will be brought under one huge master data network.
Every government department can have their specific data but the basic data will be the same. Once this master database is created, everything can be done at the comfort of homes or common service centres. This will enable people to feel the government rather than just see the government," opined Santhosh Babu.
R Varadharajan, Chairman, CII Coimbatore Zone, Senthil Ramalingam, Co- convenor, ICT panel, CII Coimbatore Zone and Suresh Raman, Head - Chennai region, Tata Consultancy Services were also present at the event.
