Tirupur : Women staged road roko against ruling party members who allegedly carried out a scuffle in a temple function held in Tirupur.
A festival at Badmavadhipuram Mahakaliyamman Temple in Tirupur had begun on February 15. Meanwhile, a scuffle allegedly broke out on February 19 at the function, following which ruling party cadres assaulted two persons of Periyar Colony, the next day.
Protesting against such goon behaviour, women of Badmavadhipuram staged a road roko on Avinashi Road condemning the police for not arresting the AIADMK cadres. An argument broke out between the women and police who attempted to remove the women from the spot.
This led to vehicle congestion on Avinashi Road for nearly half an hour. However, the women dispersed from the spot once the police assured them of dealing with those responsible for the incident.
