Coimbatore : Considering the impacts of the dry summer expected this year, foresters of the ranges of Sirumugai, Karamadai and Mettupalayam have started filling up the artificial water troughs inside the forest fringes to help the animals during summer.
According to foresters, filling up water has begun in these ranges in the last week of February as summer has kick started early this year.

They have further advised the public to not venture into forests or graze animals in the forest fringes as wild animals are prone to venture out in search of water during the summer.
“People should immediately inform department men if they come across wild animals like elephants and should never try to chase them by themselves. Most of the larger mammals could venture out if the conditions turn too dry. It is important that people are very careful,” said an official.
