Isha's 'Gramotsavam 2016' grand finale at Codissia Grounds

Isha’s ‘Gramotsavam 2016’ is a celebration of village life showcasing the essence of rural Tamil Nadu through an elaborate display of rural games, art, drama, dance, music and food specialties.

The event aims at highlighting the role of sports in rural life and a community rejuvenation program. The program was flagged on August 21st at the Isha Foundation, Vellingiri.



Activities like Uriyadi (breaking the pot), Valukku Maram (greased pole climbing), tug-of-war, 3-legged races, rope pulling, cultural dances, songs and many more thrilling rural sports activities were hosted at the show. The participants enthusiastically participated in the events and enthralled the audience.



The Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Thiru. Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore and Kiran Bedi, Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry were the Chief Guests for the grand finale. Sadhuguru Jakki Vasudev, Founder of Isha Foundation welcomed the guests.

Rajvardhan Rathore in his special address stated that Sports is one thing that unites the people, it makes us come together for one cause.  Though the sportspersons hail from different parts of the nation, they play for the nation's victory. The selfless attitude inculcated by sports helps to see perceive things in a positive way. Every sports star would have met with lot of failures in his career before becoming Champions, they learn from their mistakes, which is a vey important thing that we have to practice in our lives. Isha's Gramotsavam is a platform for the rural people to showcase their talents and get rejuvenated. He revealed that as he hails from a rural background, he has witnessed the vital role played by sports in rural communities.

Kiran Bedi in her address applauded Isha for their commendable projects. She revealed that Gramotsavam would be flagged off at Puducherry from the coming week onwards and urged that the Doordarshan should telecast these programmes in local languages to connect people with the sports.

Sadhguru in his address affirmed that they are planning to expand the Gramotsavam festival to 25,000 villages across India, in the coming year, at present the event is held at 4500 villages, whereas India has around 53,000 villages, he said. In a span of five years, India would set high standards in sports and practicing sports will lead to happiness, which in turn would make us achieve great heights in life, he told.
