While Rs.250 crores was allocated in last year’s budget for the project, an additional fund of Rs.1000 crore was allotted in this year's budget. Though the total outlay of the project is Rs. 1,652 crores, the sanctioned Rs.1250 crores is expected to be sufficient to kick-start the project, which would benefit drought prone areas in Coimbatore, Tirupur and Erode districts and feed 32 PWD tanks, 42 panchayat union tanks and 971 ponds in the region.
