Coimbatore : Rotarian S Viswanathan Benevolence Day lecture was delivered at a function jointly organised by the Rotary Club of Coimbatore Heritage and Rotary Club of Coimbatore Green City at Co-India hall, in Avarampalayam, Tirupur on Tuesday.
Coimbatore : Rotarian S Viswanathan Benevolence Day lecture was delivered at a function jointly organised by the Rotary Club of Coimbatore Heritage and Rotary Club of Coimbatore Green City at Co-India hall, in Avarampalayam, Tirupur on Tuesday.
The Green Ambassador Award was conferred on Vanam India Foundation at the event, on behalf of the Rotary Club of Coimbatore Heritage and Rotary Club of Coimbatore Green City. Swathi Chinnasamy and S Sundararajan, President and Secretary of Vanam India Foundation accepted the award.
Rotarian S Viswanathan, a businessman who had rendered social service in the city through the Rotary Club passed away last year on February 26. His 'memorial day' was observed by the members of the Rotary Clubs. S Viswanathan had initiated the 'hand washing project' in 150 Government schools through Rotary Club members, in order to encourage the habit of 'hand washing' among students.
He had succeeded in planting more than 30000 tree saplings by motivating members of the public to plant trees. He had also conducted many awareness programs on sports and physical health for the benefit of college students.
The Rotary Club of Coimbatore Heritage Charter, President C R Vasudevan welcomed the guests at the event. Rtn. S Rajasekar, Governor-elect for the year 2021/2022 inaugurated the event in the presence of Rtn P P Lakshmanan, District Director. Rtn Veena Pathy, First Lady of RI District 3201 who was the guest of honour. She lauded the efforts of late S Viswanathan and distributed half a million seed balls to improve afforestation in the Western Ghats.
Dr Jayanthasri Balakrishnan, who was the chief guest at the event, delivered the Rotarian S Viswanathan Benevolence Day lecture titled “Ennangale yenippadigal” (thoughts are ladder rungs). Rtn R S Maruti, the District Chairman Club Service also offered his felicitations. Rtn J Kulasekaran, President, Rotary Club of Coimbatore Heritage, Secretary P Kathirvelu and Rtn V S Suresh Kumar, President of Rotary Club of Coimbatore Green City and Secretary K Gandhiraj had organised the event.
