Palakkad : Unveiling the renovated memorial of late former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MGR at Vadavannur, Palakkad, the Kerala Governor Sathasivam recalled fond memories of his meeting with MGR.

"It is my immense pleasure to unveil the renovated memorial of late MGR. He worked tirelessly for the upliftment of the lives of people and was a selfless leader for people." The Kerala Governor also highlighted an old popular song "Odi Odi uzhaikkanum, oorukkellam kodukkanum" from one of MGR’s movies pointing out that MGR had lived his entire life for people.

MGR had handed over Rs.75,000 to Nehru who was the Prime Minister at the time of the Indo-China war. This had garnered a good name for him among many leaders including Kamarajar. He was established as the people’s leader only because he had an understanding of all people."

Reminiscing about his meeting with MGR, Sathasivam said, "I have met him once which I have not shared to anyone before. In 1973, after completing my law degree, on the first day of beginning my career as an advocate, I went to the MGR's house at 8 am, before heading to the Court.

Many had gathered at his house to meet him. JPR collected the visiting cards from all the people who were waiting at his house to meet him. I gave him a piece of paper with the reason to meet him. After all the visiting cards were given to MGR, I was the first person to be called upon by MGR. Due to this, a slight disturbance prevailed at the spot as P H Pandiyan and businessman N Mahalingam were also present there to meet him."

"MGR met me and said, "I called you first since today is your first day to Court. Function beyond politics." "Later, he sent the photograph of him greeting me, through his assistant, which has truly been one of the most memorable moments in my life," " recalled Sathasivam.

"Jayalalitha also functioned effectively as per the guidance of MGR. All should join hands in maintaining the memorial. I appreciate everyone including Saidai Duraisamy who have put in their effort in renovating this memorial," he noted.
