Coimbatore : Pollachi Police have arrested the gang that lured young women from rich families through Facebook, held them captive in cars to take obscene pictures and later blackmailed them for money.
Coimbatore : Pollachi Police have arrested the gang that lured young women from rich families through Facebook, held them captive in cars to take obscene pictures and later blackmailed them for money.
According to the police, there had been multiple complaints that women from rich families were being targeted by a gang involved in befriending these women through Facebook, phone calls and then after a period of time deceiving the women to capture obscene pictures of them by threatening them in cars and later blackmailing them. With these photographs, the gang had been sexually assaulting the women and looting money and jewellery from them.
It is reported that Thirunavakarasu of Pollachi had developed a friendship with a young woman in Pollachi. He took the girl in a car to Vunjulampatti saying that he would introduce her to his friends. While the woman was in the car, a person who was introduced to her as Sathish Kumar attempted to take obscene photographs of her.
They also demanded to ‘co-operate’ with her and threatened that they would otherwise upload the photos on the internet. The duo then released her after grabbing her one sovereign gold chain. The young woman filed a complaint with the East Pollachi Station along with her parents.
Based on the complaint, the police interrogated Sathish, Sabarirajan and Vasanth Kumar who had come in a car to Jothi Nagar in the wee hours of this morning. The police arrested them after they confessed to the extortions. The police also seized the car from them and are on the lookout of the king-pin of the gang, Thirunavukarasu.
The police stated that many such crimes will come to light once Thirunavakarasu is nabbed. They were also of the opinion that sons of affluent people in society could also be behind these crimes.
