The Kerala Governor Palanisamy Sathasivam unveiled the renovated memorial of late former Chief Minister MGR at Vadavannur in Palakkad, Kerala.
The memorial for MGR is located at Vadavannur of Palakkad district. The former Chennai Mayor Saidai Duraisamy stepped forward to renovate the memorial when he found the memorial in a dilapidated state, amidst overgrown bushes. With the year-long renovation work being completed, the unveiling of the memorial was held today.
A marble statue of MGR was also erected in front of the house. A photo exhibition hall showcased photos of MGR since the beginning of his career, a collection of MGR movies from his first movie ‘Sathi leelavathi’ released in 1937 till his last movie ‘Madurai Metta Sundarapandiyan’ released in 1977 and audio tapes of all his films.
Photos of MGR with leaders such as Annadurai, Kamarajar, Periyar, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, NTR and Jayalalitha were also on display at the exhibition. However, a glaring omission was that not a single photo of MGR along with the late former DMK Chief Karunanidhi was on display.
At the entrance of the house is a photo of MGR along with his brother Sakrapani, and another photo with his mother Sathiyabama.
Governor Sathasivam also unveiled marble statues of the parents of MGR. Retired police officials, Kerala MLAs and many others participated in the event.
