Coimbatore: Fulfilling the long-pending plea of the tribals and the public, S.P. Velumani, Minister for municipal administration laid the foundation stone for the 42 km stretch between Velliangadu-Manjoor road at a cost of RS. 47 crore.

The stretch is not only an alternate route to reach Connoor and Ooty but is home for more than 5000 tribals who live in tribal villages including Pillur, Gundoor, Mulli, Kootappati, Kombani and Aththikadavu.
"The stretch between Velliangadu-Manjoor falls under the Nilgiris Constituency. A.Raja who has been the MP of this constituency has not paid heed to the request of the tribals of relaying the road which is in a devastated state. No wonder, he was passive. A. Raja has no connection with the region. From, nowhere he jumped into this constituency. The period between 2011-2016, the district of Nilgiris and Mettupalayam had next to nil growth", the Minister slammed.

He also assured that works will be expedited at the earliest. And, areas exempted in the Avinashi-Athikadavu project will be added.
District Collector, K. Rajamani, MLAs Chinnaraj, Arunkumar and officials of state highways were present.
