Coimbatore : Public residing at Mopperipalayam here petitioned the district Collectorate to initiate action on a private firm functioning in their area for contaminating ground water.
The irked residents holding bottles of polluted water lamented that "A private powder painting company named Sri Kara Engineering is functioning at Mopperipalayam. Wastes discharged from the company is being released into a nearby borewell causing ground water contamination. Due to this, agriculture lands are largely affected along with health hazards".
They also alleged that smoke released from the factory during night hours is also causing potential threat to their health.
