Coimbatore : Manidhaneyam Free IAS Academy Founder, Saidai S Duraisamy has announced that the renovated memorial for MGR will be inaugurated by the Kerala Governor Sathasivam on February 26.
A memorial for MGR is located at Vadavannur of Palakkad district. The former Chennai Mayor Saidai Duraisamy stepped forward to renovate the memorial when he realised that the memorial was in a dilapidated state, amidst overgrown bushes. With the year-long renovation work being completed, a press meet in this regard was held in Coimbatore.
Addressing the media, Saidai Duraisamy said, "Manidhaneyam IAS Academy had decided to renovate the house at Vadavanur in Palakkad where MGR lived during his childhood days. The house has been renovated without losing its vintage look, complete with a play area, wall paintings and a dining room. A statue made in marbles has been installed for MGR, his mother Sathyabama and father Gopala Menon.
A hall has been built that can accommodate devotees from Tamil Nadu heading to Sabarimala, with photo collections of MGR and audio tapes of his 136 films. Books written on MGR are also stocked in the library. The house provides a serene look with trees and lawns. The renovation has been carried out at the cost of Rs.1 crore. The Governor of Kerala, Sathasivam, retired police officials and political party leaders will be participating in the inaugural ceremony of the memorial," he noted.
