Coimbatore : A farmer, Velusamy from Unjapalayam Village, Sulur Block in Coimbatore District has donated the first instalment of Rs. 2000 received under PM-KISAN scheme for de-silting Achankulam lake to the District Collector on Monday.
"Achankulam located in Muthugoundenpudur is spread over 165 acres and a major water source for irrigation in the region. Due in delay in de-silting works, the water body has been not holding enough water to support agriculture. The farmers had been pleading the district administration to de-silt the lake, however citing scarcity of funds, no efforts were taken. Hence, I have come forward to donate Rs. 2000 my first instalment received from Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme to commence de-silting of the lake".
Farmer Velusamy's noble gesture was much appreciated by the public present during the grievance day.
