"Child was not administered HIV-infected blood at Coimbatore GH": Health Minister Vijaya Baskar in Coimbatore

Coimbatore : Categorically denying the allegations of a two-year-old child from Tirupur wrongly administered with HIV-infected blood at Coimbatore GH, the State Minister for Health Vijaya Baskar said "The allegations are baseless, as the donor has no trace of HIV".


Coimbatore : Categorically denying the allegations of a two-year-old child from Tirupur wrongly administered with HIV-infected blood at Coimbatore GH, the State Minister for Health Vijaya Baskar said "The allegations are baseless, as the donor has no trace of HIV". 

State Health Minister, Vijaya Baskar inaugurated the Angiogram and District Early Intervention Centre (DEIC) at Government Hospital here today in the presence of Municipal Administration Minister S.P. Velumani, MLAs and MPs of the region. 



In a joint press meet, Minister Vijaya Baskar and SP Velumani apprised, "The Coimbatore government hospital has witnessed good development in the past 3 years. With the newly opened Angio centre at a cost of Rs 6.5 crore, brain disorders and blocks can be detected at the earliest. After Chennai, this facility has been added to Coimbatore government hospital. A new division to treat the injured and accident victims will be opened at the cost of Rs. 7 crore. Facilities on par with private hospitals are being added to the government hospitals, across Tamil Nadu". 

Speaking on the allegations that HIV-blood was given to 2-year-old child at Coimbatore government hospital, Minister Vijay Baskar said, "The allegation is baseless as the donor has no traces of HIV. As reported by parents, the child was been treated at many places, hence the infection could have spread from any of those places".

He added that if the parents co-operate, an investigation could be ordered to probe the source of infection.

"As per the parents wish, the child can be treated in any government or private hospital and the government will extend necessary support", he assured.
