Tirupur MP Sathyabama opened the new parcel booking office in Tirupur on Thursday. Spread across a area of 2000 sq ft, the parcel booking office has been built at the cost of Rs 24 lakhs.
Salem Railway Divisional Manager Subbarao, Tirupur South Constituency MLA Gunasekaran, railway officials and others participated in the inauguration event.
Speaking on this, MP Sathyabama said, "Thousands of tons of knitwear are sent to other states from Tirupur every day. As trains do not stop at Tirupur Railway Station in initial stages, the knit wear companies were unable to use the services of the railways in dispatching goods to other parts of the country. Instead, they were forced to hire private transporters by paying thrice the sum of railway parcel service. Following this, a request on behalf of knitwear manufacturers was place by me to the Railway minister to put forth an end to the demand. As a result, approval has been granted to open the parcel booking office which will now facilitate ease flow of cargo to other parts of the country".
The MP also stated that her tireless efforts has gained them permission to stop ‘Udhay Express’ at KSR at Tirupur Railway Station for which powerlifter facility was added at the cost of Rs 55 lakhs.
"Entrance at the cost of Rs 40 lakhs and AC facility at the cost of Rs 10 lakhs has been added to the Tirupur Railway Station. Concrete entrance bridge at the cost of Rs 2 crore has been constructed underneath Sennimalai railway station for 23 meter length. Approval has been gained to expand both platforms of Uthukuli Railway Station. Initially, width of the platform will be increased for 280 metres to accommodate upto 24 boxes", she added.
"Train PGTN-TPJ (No 56712) has been given approval to stop at Uthukuli Railway Station for a minute. PRS has been opened at Gobi head post office", she noted.
