Coimbatore : An official with DoT has stated that people can file with DoT against offensive messages received on WhatsApp. The decision has come up after many public figures, including journalists complained of receiving abusive and threatening messages.
Coimbatore : An official with DoT has stated that people can file with DoT against offensive messages received on WhatsApp. The decision has come up after many public figures, including journalists complained of receiving abusive and threatening messages.
Ashish Joshi of DoT Controller Communications has stated that people can file a complaint against the offensive messages they receive on WhatsApp by sending a screenshot of the message, along with the mobile number to the e-mail ID [email protected]
“If anyone is receiving abusive/offensive/death threats/ vulgar WhatsApp messages, please send screenshots of the message along with the mobile numbers at [email protected] and we will take it up with the telecom operators and police authorities for necessary action,” tweeted DoT Controller Communications, Ashish Joshi.
The DoT, in an order on February 19 had said that licence conditions bar carriage of objectionable, obscene or unauthorized content in any form on the network. The order also directed the telecom service providers that immediate action should be taken against their customers involving in such acts as it is also a violation of customer declaration in the customer application form.
