Coimbatore : America Foundation has presented 1.25 lakh dollar cash prize to Amrita University for teaching elderly people through an Application called ‘Amrita Learning App.’
The Barbara Bush Foundation conducts a contest ‘X Price’ to select the Best App for teaching elderly people every year. The Application designed by Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham bagged first prize in the event, this year. The Application was tested by providing it to people whose mother tongue was English and as second language.
A total of four Applications are chosen finally in the contest, among which the application of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham bagged first prize and won a cash prize of Rs 1.25 lakh dollars.
18 students of the Research and Advanced Technology Centre of the University had designed the Application. Dr. Prema Nedungaadi who led the team said, "The Application has won the prize as it fulfilled all the requirements." The Application has been designed in a manner to teach English through stories and games.
The ‘Amrita Learning App’ can be downloaded from Google Play free of cost.
