On June 8, 2014, opposite the Gandhinagar Chettiar Marriage Hall, two friends Tirupathi and Adhisuran got into a drunken brawl in which Adhisuran sustained grievous injuries and died on the spot. The Tirupur Anupparpalayam police had registered a case against Tirupathi and lodged him in prison, after producing him in court.
During the hearing of the case, at the Tirupur Additional Sessions Court II, Judge Mohammed sentenced Tirupathi to 10 years in prison and slapped a fine of Rs.5,000 on him. Following this, Tirupathi has been lodged in the Coimbatore Central Prison.
