Addressing the media, the School Education Minister, Sengottaiyan said, "The School Education Department has undertaken a process to conduct Board exams for Classes 5 and 8. The Tamil Nadu cabinet is yet to approve the change in no detention policy. Meanwhile, the Directorate of Government Examinations has been ordered to prepare question papers for Classes 5 and 8.
Addressing this, Minister Sengottaiyan said, "No detention policy was actually implemented to prevent children from discontinuing their education midway. But this has deteriorated the quality of education which has led us to such a decision."
