Speaking to the Simplicity, K. Kalidass, National Coordinator of the Save Western Ghats Movement said that they would also stress for a separate law to safeguard the Western Ghats.
“The issues in Western Ghats are not like other States. They largely circulate around water and can be easily solved if the State and the Central Governments are willing,” he said.
He further added that rather than seeing the Western Ghats only as an eco hotspot, people should also start looking at the mountain chain as a source of drinking water.
“The conservation of Western Ghats should be linked directly with the conservation of the rivers and thereby the flora and fauna. This can be done only through a dedicated law,” he opined.
Kalidass also added that all the organisations that participated in the Ecological Fest for the conservation of Western Ghats have agreed upon to voice for environmental conservation in the upcoming elections.
“We have also planned to meet once in three months to discuss and find solutions for issues related to Western Ghats,” he said.
