Coimbatore : At Karupparayan Kovil Extension street, the past two months have been a nightmare for the residents with water supply in the area having sewage mixed in it.

Following repeated complaints of the residents about foul smell emanating from the drinking water supplied to the area, the officials have presently terminated water supply.

Drinking water in this area is supplied only through water tankers once in 6 or 8 days which by itself have not been adequate for their daily use, according to residents. When they approached the concerned authorities in this regard, they were told that the water pipes were not ready since the issue of sewage getting mixed with drinking water had not yet been sorted.

"Two months ago, we had sewage mixed in the drinking water, but when we complained, they stopped supply. Since then, we have been using only hard water for daily chores. Drinking water supply was being done only through tankers but it is not sufficient because it comes only once in 6 to 8 days. We hardly get 4 to 5 containers of water per family. We have complained to the concerned authorities many times but the problem is yet to be solved.

Once or twice, when we had drinking water supply through the pipes, it had a foul smell and had sewage mixed in it. It has been a long two months since this problem started and we have not yet had any respite," said Anitha, a resident of Karupparayan Kovil Extension street.

Even in the nearby Anthoniar Street, Vinayagar Kovil Street and adjoining streets of Puliakulam, residents have been complaining that the drinking water supply is erratic and even when there is a supply that has not been enough water for use till the next round of supply. The residents have also staged a road roko recently demanding proper water supply.

When contacted, a Corporation official responded that the Corporation had tried twice, but the sewage was continuously getting mixed with the drinking water .The official added that work is still in progress and the issue will be solved as soon as possible.
