Coimbatore : The famous Karamadai Aranganathar temple car festival (Ther Thiruvizha) was celebrated on Tuesday with religious fervour.

Thousands of devotees participated in the car procession that commenced at 5 pm from the temple.

The annual 'Maasi Magam' festival started on February 13 with flag hoisting. Since then, several special poojas, events including Aranganathar Kalyanam took place.

During today's car festival, the main deity of the temple Aranganathar, Boodevi, and Sri Devi were taken as procession through the streets of Karamadai. Devotees from Coimbatore, Tirupur, Erode, Nilgiris and several other places participated in the event.
Traffic was diverted between Coimbatore and Mettupalayam, as part of the festival. TNSTC also operated special buses for the festival. More than 500 police personnel were deployed to ensure safety and security of devotees.
