The Nilgiris : "Lack of awareness on the Janmam land issue has lead to widespread confusion in Gudalur and Pandalur areas.
People are spreading unwarranted information which has lead to unrest among the residents who fear of eviction. Hence, it is become a challenging task for the administration to settle the issue”, said Innocent Divya, District Collector of the Nilgiris.
She also added that people in Gudalur who are occupying Section 17 lands under the Gudalur Janmam Estates (Abolition and Conversion into Ryotwari) Act, 1969, need not panic that they will be evicted.
"The introduction of a Bill for an amendment to the Tamil Nadu Forest Act, 1882, 16(A) has instilled unwarranted confusion and fear among the people living in Gudalur and Pandalur areas. Those who spread misinformation on the Janmam act and the orders passed by Supreme Court on handling encroachments will be dealt legally", the Collector warned.
The welfare of the people will be the priority and not interests of high net worth individuals. Legal action will be initiated against those who try to arm twist rules for their vested interests.
She strongly warned that "Encroachers will have to face severe legal action. And, that the administration will annihilate encroachments, soon.
