According to sources, after noticing a youth climb a 50-foot-tall cellphone on Kongu Main Road, locals informed police, who came to the spot along with fire fighters. The man, who was reportedly drunk, descended from the tower nearly after an hour.
Inquiry revealed that the youngster - identified as Sabeer from Udumalpet – was working in a printing press in Tirupur. Sabeer had allegedly told his friends that he was climbing the tower to commit suicide due to unrequited love.
However, Sabeer had told the police that he took this extreme decision after being disturbed by the comments spreading against a particular religion on social media regarding the Pulwama attack. Further investigation was on.
