Government hospital in Ooty's Emerald area to be opened by 2020

The Nilgiris: Officials have affirmed that the construction works of government hospital at Emerald near Ooty which is being carried out at the cost of Rs 18.54 crore will over by the end of 2019.

Emerald village is located near Ooty. Nearly 30 hamlets including Attupal, Anna Nagar, Surendra Nagar, Nehru Nagar, Lawrence and Avalanche are located around Emerald village housing more than 10,000 families. However, lack of hospital in this area has been forcing the 10,000 families travel around 20 km to reachout to the hospital in Ooty. 

Following the long-pending plea of the residents, the State government has allocated Rs. 18.54 crore to built a hospital in Emerald. The land owned by Revenue department at the backside of the Emerald Police Station has been ear-marked for the construction of the hospital. 

"The proposed 50-bedded hospital will be equipped with various facilities including ECG, X-Ray, Surgery Centre, separate wards for women and children, parking lot with 24-hour treatment", said an official source. 

The officials confirmed that construction works of the hospital will be completed by the end of this year and will be opened for public use from the beginning of next year.
