MoU signed between Coimbatore and Thuringia to promote trade

Coimbatore: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the German-Indian Round Table, Coimbatore and Thuringia, a German State to promote trade between the two regions. The event took place in the presence of Wolfgang Tiefensee, Thuringia’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Science and Digital State.

Addressing the media persons, the German Minister said, "Since 2012, India has been one of our target markets. Currently, as many as 89 Thuringian companies have export relations with India, especially in the fields of medical technology, optics, photonic and engineering.”

He also said that there are 19 cooperation agreements between universities in Thuringia and India.



"Tamil Nadu is the second largest economic cluster in India. The southeast has always been very attractive for Germany’s foreign direct investment. We both share a strong bilateral relation. So far, over 130 German companies in India have created as many as 25,000 jobs opportunities. The partnership was improved by establishing a Joint Working Commission between the Government of Tamil Nadu, the Consulate General of Germany and the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce in 2018," said the German Consul General Karin Stoll.



The German-Indian Round Table Coimbatore Chapter’s founder K Ramasamy said that the MoU would take the Coimbatore-Thuringia collaboration a long way. 

Franziska Doell, Director, South Asia, LEG Thuringen/State Development Corporation of Thuringia and Chapter Head GIRT Thuringia, and S Chandrasekar, Director, Roots Group of Companies were also present among other industrial representatives from Thuringia and Coimbatore.
