The Nilgiris : Little did the residents of Gandhi Nagar know that they would wake up on Sunday and be greeted by a herd of gaurs in front of their houses.

Although spotting a gaur in this region is not uncommon, residents of Gandhi Nagar found it ‘unusual’. Reason: It was not one, two or three but about ten this time.
Kandhan, who also witnessed the gaur herd treading the streets, said, “It was quite alarming to spot so many gaurs in the residential areas. It was never so before.”
The gaurs have been reportedly camping in Ubadhalai tea estate close to Gandhi Nagar for over a week now. Hence, fearing that the herd might turn up any time again, the residents urged the forest department to initiate measures to prevent the entry of wild animals into the city limits.
Although summer was a few months away, the gaurs have already begun to intrude human settlements in search of food and water.
