For a long time now, people residing in Vasuki Nagar and Valluvar Nagar of Coonoor municipality claim that they have been bearing the brunt of such indiscriminate dumping of medical wastes in their dump yard close to their area.
"This apart, when waste from all ten wards is burnt in huge quantities in the 30-foot dumpyard near our households, we are prone to suffer from health issues, especially respiratory diseases", said a resident of Valluvar Nagar.
He also alleged that air in the vicinity is completely polluted as miscreants frequently set fire to the piled up waste.
Hence, all through the day, smoke emanates from the dumpyard, leaving us with health threats. Already, people have been complaining of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, coughing, throat irritation, skin diseases, and asthma, he added.
