Coimbatore : Foresters of the Mettupalayam Forest Range today rescued a less than a-year-old elephant calf that was caught in a farmland in the forest fringe unable to cross the Elephant Proof Trench (EPT) near Nellithurai today.
Coimbatore : Foresters of the Mettupalayam Forest Range today rescued a less than a-year-old elephant calf that was caught in a farmland in the forest fringe unable to cross the Elephant Proof Trench (EPT) near Nellithurai today.
The calf that had ventured outside the reserve along with a herd could not cross the EPT as it was too steep. However, the herd had managed to cross it leaving the calf stranded in farmland belonging to a Chinnaraj from Nellithurai.
While the calf was crying in distress, the stressed herd was trumpeting within the reserve unable to help the poor creature.
Fortunately, the calf was found by foresters who tried battled for long hours before taking it across the trench to get it united with its herd.
