Coimbatore: Harmandar Singh, Principal Secretary, Municipal Administration and Water Supply and District Monitoring Officer has directed the officials of various departments to ensure that government schemes reach the citizens on time without any hassle.

Addressing officials during a review meeting at the Coimbatore District Collectorate, Mr. Singh said the Highways and Municipal Administration Departments should speed up road and flyover works and other development works.
He said that School education department officials should ensure that freebies for students of government schools are kept ready for the next academic year and that enough supplies to fair price shops for family card holders are kept ready.
The Secretary said that officials should create awareness on the ban on single-use plastics among traders and consumers and urge them to use alternatives including cloth bags.
He said that Health Department officials should be on the alert and ensure availability of medicines at the Government General Hospital and Public Health Centres and local body staff must see to it that surroundings are kept clean.
Mr. Singh said that keeping in mind that Coimbatore is an important industrial hub in the State, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami has been implementing schemes for the growth of industries and agriculture in the district. He said that Coimbatore was a district where both urban and rural areas were provided with basic amenities including roads, street lights, drinking water, toilets and health centres.
"Government officials must conduct regular inspections and fullfill basic requirements of residents in rural areas. Street light complaints in rural areas must be attended to immediately", he added.
To tide over the summer season, availability of drinking water should be ensured and awareness be created to use water judiciously, Mr. Singh advised.
He directed officials to provide a status update of all projects and schemes to the Corporation Commissioner, Dr.K. Vijayakarthikeyan, who was present at the meeting along with District Rural Development Agency Project Director Ruban Sankarraj, Municipal Corporation Deputy Commissioner Ganthimathi, Pollachi Sub Collector, Gayathri Krishnan, Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation's Zonal Senior Manager Menaka and District Collector's personal assistant (General) Madhuranthaki.
