Coimbatore: The Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Coimbatore Chapter (ICCIC) has welcomed the Tamil Nadu Budget for 2019-2020 presented by the State Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister O.Panneerselvam.
Coimbatore: The Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Coimbatore Chapter (ICCIC) has welcomed the Tamil Nadu Budget for 2019-2020 presented by the State Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister O.Panneerselvam.
In a statement here, the ICCIC President, V. Lakshminarayanasamy has appreciated the proposal to purchase electric buses for plying in Chennai, Coimbatore and Madurai districts and the allocation of Rs 18,274 crore for Rural Development projects.
The President of the Chamber says that the long felt need of Coimbatore is the implementation of Metro Rail Project which the Chamber hopes will see the light of day in the forthcoming year. The Chamber has appealed to the government that under road developmental projects, formation of a ring road connecting Palghat road, Thadagam road, Mettupalayam road, Sathy road and Avinashi road may be considered on priority.
The Chamber expects allocation of funds for acquiring lands for Coimbatore Airport expansion project which is long pending and very essential for the development of Coimbatore. It has appreciated the Budget which is ‘a well-balanced one giving the citizens hope of prosperous times ahead for the State.’
In particular, ICCIC has welcomed the allocation of Rs.18,700 crore for provision of drinking water for Municipal Administration and Water Board and also the proposal for establishment of an Arts and Science College in the name of former President of India Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam in Rameshwaram.
The proposal for construction of one lakh concrete houses in Gaja cyclone affected areas at a cost of Rs.1,700 crore; the provision of 3000 scooters for differently-abled persons, Rs 1,200 crore for Village Road Development Schemes, , Rs 1,000 crore for Athikadavu-Avinashi integrated drinking water project which will be commenced shortly and Rs.6,000 crore towards food subsidy have been welcomed by the Chamber.
Other proposals including floating of Solar projects at a cost of Rs 1,150 crore in Theni, Salem and Erode districts, allocation of Rs 12,563.83 crore to health sector and Rs.18,560 crore for energy sector, launching of Tamil Nadu Health Systems Reforms programme with World Bank's support to improve the access of poor and the disadvantaged to the Government health facilities, allocation of Rs. 29,000 crore towards pension to retired employees have been appreciated by ICCIC.
The statement emphasises that sufficient funds should be allocated for the development and proper maintenance of roads.
