The Nilgiris: Two elephants which strayed into Kenthorai, Karimudakku and Nellikkambai villages near Ooty in a rare occurrence after twenty years, returned on their own back into the Siriyur forest area through Anikkal Mayar, according to forest officials.

Farmers in these areas had to stay put at home without stepping out into their fields for their livelihood. When the forest department was informed about this, officials promptly stepped up monitoring in these areas.

The forest officials have now informed that these elephants which had camped in the tea estates adjacent to human habitations walked back on their own into the thick Siriyur forest area through Anikkal Mayar. Farmers have thus been able to resume work on their farmlands.
