Coimbatore : The Central Government had introduced the 'soil health cards' scheme in 2015 to encourage farmers toward natural farming and to prevent land from getting polluted with artificial fertilizers.
Coimbatore : The Central Government had introduced the 'soil health cards' scheme in 2015 to encourage farmers toward natural farming and to prevent land from getting polluted with artificial fertilizers.
Through these soil health cards, farmers are provided with the proportion of fertilizer required for the soil which will provide high yield at a low cost, and also reduce the expenses on fertilizers.
Speaking on this, officials from the Agriculture Department said, "Soil health cards will reduce the usage of fertilizers as it has detailed data such as necessary fertilizers, crops that provide high yield, irrigation measures, salt level, soil management and nutrients required for crops.
The cards will be distributed to 53114 farmers in Coimbatore, this month. Sulur K Madhapur, Karamadai Nellithurai, South S Ponnapuram are chosen initially for soil health cards distribution. In 2018-2019, about 26,593 soil samples were taken for testing from 12 zones in Coimbatore.
Based on this, soil health cards will be distributed to 53,114 farmers within a month. Soil health cards also bring down the excess usage of fertilizers which spoils the land," reiterated the officials.
