Waterfowl census begins tomorrow in Coimbatore

Coimbatore: The annual synchronised waterfowl census would begin in the city tomorrow.


Coimbatore: The annual synchronised waterfowl census would begin in the city tomorrow.

The census programme is jointly organised by the Coimbatore Forest Department and Worldwide Fund for Nature.

More than 60 volunteers along with the field staff of forest department would conduct the survey tomorrow and on Friday to ascertain the distribution of water birds in our lakes.

The total population is also to be checked by the volunteers in all the 26 lakes and a water bodies here.

The census of 2018 fetched 166 species of water birds and associated birds.

Vellalore tank fetched the most number of species with 89 species and more than a thousand birds belonging to different species were recorded from Ukkadam big tank.
