Coimbatore: Minister for Municipal Administration, SP Velumani on Wednesday distributed free bicycles to students of government schools in the city.
Coimbatore: Minister for Municipal Administration, SP Velumani on Wednesday distributed free bicycles to students of government schools in the city.
He distributed 1131 cycles, quiz books and tutorials to the students of RS Puram Ammaniammal School, RS Puram government girls higher secondary school and boys higher secondary school.

Speaking at the event, the Minister cited that free bicycle scheme was launched under the aegis of late former CM, Jayalalitha in the year 2011-12.
"Amma was very keen in uplifting the lives of the government school students by providing them with free educational kits -- books, bags, uniforms, slippers, bicycles and laptops. Following her foot steps, the government under CM Edapadi Palanisamy has been meticulously planning to ensure that all welfare schemes reach the economically backward people".
The students from government schools, government-aided schools and partically-aided schools are eligible to benefit under the scheme.
City Engineer, Lakshmanan, District Education Officer, Ravi, Head masters, teachers, students and parents of the beneficiary schools took part in the event.
