The Nilgiris: Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) won the recognised union elections of Cordite Factory in Aruvankadu held on Tuesday.
The Nilgiris: Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) won the recognised union elections of Cordite Factory in Aruvankadu held on Tuesday.
Every two years, the Unions' at Cordite factory conduct elections to form the new set of union heads for work force and canteen. This year, while TFLU and CFLU formed an alliance to compete, INTUC competed all alone and won 12 seats and proved its majority.
Out of the 1470 employees, 93.8% of the employees registered their votes. In which, INTUC have won in majority in both work force and canteen. Dilip Kumar of INTUC took charge as the General Secretary, Arun Kumar as Deputy General Secretary, Natarajan as Deputy President and Joshi Lazar as Secretary. And, Easwaran and Maheshwaran of CFLU and TFLU also won the elections and the duo took charge of positions in the Union work force.
Similarly, Rajkumar and Ravikumar of INTUC took charge of the canteen union. The other elected members of INTUC are Moorthy, Yesudas, Ramakrishnan and Vijayakumar.

Cordite Factory in Aruvangadu is one of the oldest defence factories coming under the Ministry of Defence and the Indian Ordnance Factories. The cordite factory was established in 1903 by the then British Government on a huge campus and it still caters to the Defence Services by manufacturing cordite, an antiquated type of smokeless propellant, which is used in manufacturing small arms ammunition and also as a propellant in various tanks.
