The Nilgiris: For the very first time, Tamil Nadu's ancient martial art -- Silambam is to be introduced to the schools in the District of Nilgiris.
"Recently, renewed interest is seen among school, college students and youngsters in learning the ancient martial art. Importantly, in a bid to familiarize the martial art among school students, we have planned to take Silambam classes at all schools in the Nilgiris District", said the organisers of Tamil Nadu Silambattam Association.
"Soon, school grounds across the District of Nilgiris will witness Silambam classes. We have planned to begin classes at Breeks Schools in Ooty", they added.
More than an extra-curricular activity, the art form requires intense practice and immense mental concentration which in turn can help the students to excel in academics.
