Coimbatore : The fifth edition of Kongunadu Velan and Kaalnadai Thiruvizha of Vanavarayar Foundation is about to begin on February 8, at the Sakthi Textiles premises in Pollachi.
Coimbatore : The fifth edition of Kongunadu Velan and Kaalnadai Thiruvizha of Vanavarayar Foundation is about to begin on February 8, at the Sakthi Textiles premises in Pollachi.
Addressing the media, organiser Velliyangiri said, "With an aim to uplift the livelihood of farmers, agriculture companies and government companies are conducting exhibitions and conferences to introduce innovative measures in agriculture which will be a part of this three-day event. More than 60,000 farmers attended the event last year, and we expect more than 1 lakh farmers this year."

"108 Gomatha Poojas will take place at Samuthur during the first day of the event. The ‘Demo Farm’ which has been set up this season will be the centre of attraction," said Saravanan Chandrasekar, another organiser who is also a social activist.
"The 'Demo Farm’ has been set up to spread awareness and help farmers practise integrated agricultural farming which will increase interest toward that type of farming among farmers, he added." Agricultural machines and equipment will also be on display, with workshops, conferences and cultural events planned as part of the event.
The event will showcase native Kangayam breeds and other livestock such as horses, rams, roosters, dogs and other indigenous varieties. These livestock will participate in a show and be judged based on its morphological characteristics. Prizes worth Rs.8 lakh will be awarded. A Royal Enfield will be awarded to the the one with the winning Kangayam breed and a reckla vehicle to the best bull pair, as well as special prizes to encourage women who breed livestock.
