The City Police Commissioner, Sumit Sharan, flagged off the rally that began at VOC grounds, here this morning. More than 300 policemen participated in the rally that went through Anna Silai, RTO Office and ended at VOC grounds. During the rally, policemen carried placards with slogans on road safety awareness.
Speaking at the rally, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (traffic) Sujit Kumar said, "The City Police is constantly spreading awareness on road safety among people due to which accidents have decreased gradually. The Police-e-Eye application has received good reception from the public and many have begun to register complaints on those who violate road rules. "We are receiving around 100 complaints everyday and we continue to take action against road rule violators," he added.
The 30th Road Safety Awareness week is being celebrated across Tamil Nadu. As part of this, the road safety awareness program began in Coimbatore yesterday and ends on February 10. As part of the program, policemen will distribute awareness pamphlets, prizes and sweets to vehicle drivers who obey road rules. Stage plays will also be organised at important junctions of the city, including Gandhipuram Bus Stand to create awareness on road safety among people.
