Coimbatore: "Human greed on natural resources has led to this painful drama", said Actor Kamal Haasan on Chinnathambi's capture in Coimbatore.
Addressing the media at City airport on Monday, Kamal Haasan, President of Makkal Needhi Maiyam opined, "Encroachments on elephant corridors has vastly altered the pathway of elephants, thereby forcing them to venture into farmlands. Capturing elephants is not a solution; the government should address the underlying cause".
When questioned on transforming wild elephant Chinnathambi into a Kumki, he said "The contradicting reports by Forest Minsiter Dindigul Srinivasan and the aruguements putforth by the government lawyer in the Court shows how both lack knowledge on the issue".
Expressing his support for Mamta Banerjee's agitation to 'save democracy, the Constitution and the country', the actor opined "How sad, Tamil Nadu has not witnessed such sit-in protests like what Mamta Banerjee is doing in West Bengal. Political parties in Tamil Nadu should have long back staged such protests".
"Though Makkal Needhi Maiyam has been approached by several political parties for alliance, the party is yet to arrive at a concrete decision", said Kamal.
Kamal has arrived to Coimbatore to take part in party meeting to be held in Pollachi on February 5-6.
