According to the petition, Rajesh, a cab driver of Kanchipuram District after fetching a woman employee of a software firm was waiting at Padi expecting another woman employee. A few policemen who came there are reported to have abused him using derogatory language and also damaged his car.
The cab driver Rajesh, thus humiliated in the presence of a passenger, committed suicide, by jumping in front of a train. His relatives charged that the police inspector was responsible for his death, on the basis of postings found in his mobile phone. Thereafter, the inspector was transferred to the police control room.
Condemning this incident, the Coimbatore District All India Tourist Cab Drivers Welfare Association has alleged that three such suicidal deaths have taken place in the last one year.
The Association has submitted a representation to the District Collector seeking safety and improvement in the livelihood of cab drivers. They would apprised of a day’s strike tomorrow condemning this incident.
