The victim Hariharan from Thiruvarur District was pursuing 1st year Mechanical engineering in Asian College here. Today, he was found hanging from the ceiling fan at his hostel room.
As he has left no note about his suicide, the police and the students are left perplexed on the reason for his suicide.
According to the victim's colleagues in the hostel, Hariharan had only few friends and preferred spending time alone.
"Recently, the absence of his fellow roommates could have added up to his loneliness, thus leading him to take the extreme step", his colleagues said.
Meanwhile, the students boycotted their classes and staged a protest against the management seeking for an explanation over the sudden death of the 1st year student.
They also alleged that only a single police cop visited the suicide spot and clicked pictures.
The management has requested the students to withdraw the protest and not to create unrest in the college.
