Nilgiris : The Forest Department in Nilgiris have begun to draw fire prevention lines around the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve.

Due to heavy frost and high temperature prevailing in Nilgiris between December and May, trees and grass spread across the forest region dry up and sometimes break out a fire.

To prevent the outbreak of fire outbreak, the Forest Department draws fire prevention lines on both sides of roads at Siriyur, Segoor, Masinagudi and Singara for 6 km, every year. Tourists are also advised to refrain from smoking and using inflammable materials. Artificial wells are also constructed and filled with water for animals during the summer season. Pamphlets have been provided to tourists at all the check posts in the Reserve area.
