Coimbatore : The officers of DRI Coimbatore kept strict vigil at the Coimbatore International Airport on Sunday after their intelligence report confirmed that two passengers from Sharjah are smuggling gold bars via Air Arabia Flight.
Coimbatore : The officers of DRI Coimbatore kept strict vigil at the Coimbatore International Airport on Sunday after their intelligence report confirmed that two passengers from Sharjah are smuggling gold bars via Air Arabia Flight.
After the flight landed, the DRI officials intercepted two passengers, Usman of Malappuram and Shajahan of Palakkad.
The passengers were subjected to a personal search. During the personal search, both the passengers admitted to have sealed 1.356 kg of gold in their rectum which were later recovered.
The worth of the gold is estimated at Rs.46.78 lakhs. The gold was found to have mixed with some compound which was subsequently removed.
Both the passengers admitted to their involvement in the smuggling racket for the commission money offered by some unscrupulous persons. They were arrested and enlarged on bail.
Further investigation is under progress.
