Coimbatore : A man was caught red-handed in a private hospital while he attempted to steal sedatives used in operation theatres and inturn sell them to youngsters to get high.

While movement of drug peddlers are reported frequently, the police have tightened vigil to nab drug peddlers who lure youngsters at prominent locations and near educational institutions. Apart from ganja, sedatives used by hospitals during surgeries and prescription drugs used to treat sleep disorders are also largely used by the youngsters to get high.
On Saturday, the employees of RVS Hospital at Chinniampalayam fell suspicious on two men who were wandering near the operation theatre. When inquired they found that the duo had stolen several bottles of sedatives from the operation theatres which are used on patients during medical or diagnostic procedure.
While one of the stranger managed to escape, the other person was handed over to Peelamedu Police.
On investigation, the person was identified as Mohanraj (45). The duo have been involved in stealing sedative drugs from hospitals and selling them at exorbitant prices to youngsters who inject them to get high.
It was found that per injection was sold up to Rs. 500 and mostly students fall prey to such drugs. Police are on lookout for the other person who escaped from the spot.
