The Nilgiris : A special team headed by District Superintendent of Police, Shanmughapriya on Saturday busted an illegal casino operating in Hotel Sinclairs in Ooty.
In a midnight operation on Friday, the special team arrested eight people and seized Rs. 45 lakhs worth of goods used for gambling.

Based on a tip off that gambling is been carried out at a private hotel in Ooty and people from various states are part of the the activity, the police planned to set a trap to nab the gang.
Breifing on the operation, SP Shanmughapriya said "The special team comprising of Deputy SP Ravikumar, Thirumeni , Inspectors, Jayamurugan, Selvarani gathered information about the gang and confirmed that they were involved in an illegal casino at Hotel Sinclairs".
"At around 12:15, the police rounded up the hotel and forced open the room in which the gang were carrying out gambling. Six people from Bangalore, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Karnataka and two managers of the hotel were caught red-handed".
"Around Rs. 1,17,900 of cash, 8 cell phones, slot machines, casino tokens worth Rs. 45,39,900 were seized. Two four wheelers used by the gamblers were also seized", the SP added.
Maatharapu Vijay (39), Parameah (40) from Telangana, Sathishkumar (37), Omkar (33), Rohithbabu (37) from Karnataka, Venkatesh Tilakram (35) from Andhra Pradesh, Mohan (31) from Kerala and Arjith Kutta (43) from Ooty were arrested.
