Coimbatore : Investigations reveal that love rivalry has led to the death of a youngster in the city. He was allegedly murdered by his friend who was in love with the same girl.
On Wednesday night, Police recovered the body of Muralidaran (21) of Kempatty colony in Ukkadam. His friend Balaji was arrested in connection with the murder.
Reports now reveal that "Balaji and Muralidharan fell in love with the same girl and had been having frequent altercations. Meanwhile, a few months ago, the girl for some reason stopped talking to Balaji. This multiplied the friction between the duo. Following this on December 23, a gang war erupted between the duo when they had gathered near the girl's house to celebrate her birthday. During the time, Balaji's friends surrounded Muralidaran and attempted to assault him. However, Muralidaran and his friends managed to escape from the spot", the Police said.
"On January 30, Muralidaran was interrupted by Balaji while he was walking near Kempatty Colony near Ukkadam. In a fit, Balaji stabbed Muralidaran to death with the knife he hid behind. Hearing Muralidharan's cries, the nearby people rushed to the spot and sent him to Government hospital. However, he was pronounced upon arrival", reports from the police say.
The police launched a search for Balaji and arrested him around midnight of Wednesday. It is expected that he would be remanded shortly.
