The Nilgiris: An adult Indian Gaur that fell into a water tank at a private estate in Adhirakati Village near Coonoor in the early hours of Thursday was rescued safely by the villagers.

According to reports, the Gaur strayed out of the reserve forest and was spotted roaming in the farmland for food and water.

While trying to drink water from an open tank, the Gaur slipped off into the 8-feet deep tank. Hearing the struggling in the slush, a farmer alerted the nearby villagers.
After a long struggle, the water was pumped out from the tank. The villagers tied the animal to a rope and pulled it to the surface, with the help of local people.

They safely rescued the Gaur from the tank and chased it into the forest area.
